  1. One Inc. v. Olesen (1957)

    • Free speech protection for gay publications

  2. Romer v. Evans (1996)

    • Stated gay people are awarded civil rights protection​

  3. Lawrence v. Texas (2003)

    1. Eliminated state sodomy laws, legalizing being gay in the U.S.

  4. U.S. v. Windsor (2013)

    • ​Ruled the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) banning same sex marriage at the federal level was unconstitutional

  5. Obergefell v. Hodges (2015)

    • Legalized gay marriage nationwide

  6. Bostock v. Clayton County (2020)

    • Stated employees cannot be fired for being gay or transgender

  1. Bowers v. Hardwick (1986)

    • Upheld state laws criminalizing gay behavior

  2. Boy Scouts of America v. Dale (2000)

    • Upheld Boy Scouts ban on gay troup leaders, allowed this organization to disciminate against gay people

  3. Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission (2017)

    • ​Court allowed a baker to refuse to bake a cake for a same sex couple
